The Regional Profile of the Crocus Country Economic Development Corporation. starts from the Saskatchewan/Manitoban border and extends eastward 60 km. It includes the Major Highways of PTH 3 and 83 and sits roughly 300 kilometers southwest of Winnipeg.
Located in Southwest Manitoba, bordering Saskatchewan to the west and the United States to the south. The landscape is filled with farmland and dotted with oil producing pump jacks. Croplands vary between Wheat, Canola, Corn and Legumes changing every mile with stunning prairie landscapes and the Turtle Mountains to the east.
The property market offers opportunity for every budget throughout the region! The cost to purchase a property varies across the region, but when compared to larger centres, housing in the region is very affordable. Families can find 1200 square foot properties for under $250,000, with the prices on smaller houses available for under $100,000.
Business is alive and well. The primary economic driver is agriculture, with developed oilfields existing to the south, east and west areas of our region. These industries provide for entrepreneurial activity across many other sectors which also make a considerable contribution to local economies. Self employment represents 31% of the region, with many of these businesses operating for more than 10 years and some being multi-generational.
The region has many new projects moving forward, we are a community that focuses on the growth of our area through implementation of sustainable community and economic development practices; by building capacity on our present strengths and values, and being mindful of our weaknesses and generating a creative and entrepreneurial spirit among our people through education programs; while maintaining and renewing the area’s economic growth to enhance the present and future.
